Friday, April 1st

I attended my first Tin Pan South Songwriters Show in Nashville on Friday, April 1st.  I stood in line at the Hard Rock Cafe for an hour and a half in order to catch the “early” show, featuring celebrated songwriters Hillary Lindsey, Gordie Sampson, Tom Douglas, Tony Lane, and James T. Slater.

The writers chose to debut new material that has not been recorded or cut yet, which was exciting for the audience – especially the industry professionals that were there to preview new music.  But they also delivered many crowd favorites, including the #1 Hit “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” made popular by Carrie Underwood.

Each of the songs had their own identity, but they all seemed to point towards love, with a stronger-than-expected undertone of finding our place in the world.  The writers were passionate, often moving us to tears.  I was inspired – especially by young Hillary Lindsey, who at a very young age is already considered one of Nashville’s best songwriters.

I would say more, but I’m too busy thinking about the new songs in my head!
